Lyrics

There’s an awful lot of windswept miles, on the trail to Colorado
When Texas was the place you once called home
And its awful hard to see beyond, the dust from a thousand cattle
And the leather of your saddle starts to feel like it is stone
When coyotes sang a lullaby to the restless herd and a moonless sky
My grandpa John, would soothe away the jitters
He’d put their fears to rest, paint a vision of what’s West
With a whistle or a song just like a cantor

Somewhere beyond the dust, yea, somewhere beyond the miles
There’s pasture lying green beside still waters
So take another step, and don't you be misled
We'll reach our home, somewhere beyond

And your sanity’s in question when you write a second chapter
On a trail, towards a life beyond the known
And who’s to say the path you take won’t lead you to disaster
And your happy ever-after, will start to look like leather-worn?
But grandpa John like Abraham, had the eyes to see an inheritance
And the strength to lead his family up the Pecos
And just like those before, I want to find the true reward
So I’m searching the horizon for a promise

Somewhere beyond the dust, yea, somewhere beyond the miles
There’s pasture lying green beside still waters
So take another step, and don't you be misled
We'll reach our home, somewhere beyond

And you know I want to see you there
We can hear Him say "Well done!”
So we wipe our brows, and not despair
And of this we can be certain

Somewhere beyond the dust, yea, somewhere beyond the miles
There’s pasture lying green beside still waters
It’s an ever-bubbling stream,
Running cool and crisp and clean,
And the shady trees will bring your heart some healing
And I’ve got family waiting there with a lantern on the porch
As a beacon to this tired and hungry traveler
So take another step, don't you be misled
We'll reach our home, somewhere beyond
So take another step, and don't you be misled
We'll reach our home, somewhere beyond
